About Alexandra Oterdoom
Born (1969) and raised on Ameland (island above the Netherlands). I live and work currently in Groningen. As a child, I was already drawing, painting and design jewelry. I gathered all I encountered on the beach. Beautiful shells and pieces of wood that had a beautiful form shaped by the sea. These 'things' I used mainly for jewelry. After I graduated I followed in a totally different direction my career, always had the desire to go back to the creative section and after a long detour I am very happy to be back again into art. My passion is painting. I can endlessly mix colors and apply layer after layer on the canvas. Scraping layers, until I find the right combination of color and texture. My inspiration I find in nature, especially the beautiful bleached skies above the island and everything that is dear to my surroundings. Color plays an important role in my work. Entirely dependent on my mood and also the time of year I choose the colors. My work is a pure representation of emotions and thoughts at that moment. I let the autonomic process do its job, in this way I can work in freedom. Often purely abstract and occasionally figurative. People who like my work nicely and possibly buyers are often struck by the colors, or the appearance of the work. "What I perceive and paint is pure emotion and goes beyond what my eyes can see' Have fun viewing my work!
