Amy Napper

Amy graduated from Coventry University in 2008 and has since been working in her home county of West Sussex.

Amy fuses together imagery from the media, films, medieval woodcuts and the internet to produce pop-surrealist images that are simultaneously beautiful and ugly; alluring and repulsing.


Amy produces canvases that glow like stained glass with acrylic paint, encrusted with glistening gems and glitter and saturated with glass paint and varnish. The ugly is beautiful and the beautiful is disconcerting. Amy's drawings are far less complex in construction but just as intricate as her canvases. The black and white images on paper resemble ancient woodcuts at first glance until they are dissected into the different components of microscopic organisms, circuit boards, and botanical entities both real and fictitious.
