Amy Newland

Following a long and winding road from rural Pennsylvania in the 1960s, college in the 1970s, and New York City in the 1980s, Amy Newland settled with her family in the middle of a stand of pecan trees under an enormous Texas sky.

The experience of living in an environment that fluctuates between harsh and unforgiving greatly influences her work. She is inspired by the thorny plants and creeping animals in this habitat that not only persevere but thrive.

When she is not painting, Amy Newland sings in a local choir, strives to see what she's looking at, and practices being unafraid.
