I came to Kenya in 1997 after completing a Msc and Bsc in Textile Design at UMIST. This move from London to the Great Rift Valley had a profound and positive effect on me creatively. The sense of freedom and adventure was tangible and I started to paint to document my travels.
My work explores these positive influences and empathy with my environment. I juxtapose patterns from Swahili, Islamic and tribal designs including textiles, jewellery and architecture and am also influenced by Indian and Asian design, especially Mughal miniatures. I include these patterns onto canvas or frames - a nod to an old world aesthetic.
I gained a Bsc Hons and Msc in Textiles at UMIST Manchester before moving to Kenya in 1997 to be a full-time Artist. Have frequent shows in UK and Kenya.
