Amy Wilds

Amy visits places that characteristically have dark pasts, the essence and spirituality of a place resonates within the strokes and marks made within her paintings, they start to create a narrative between the past and present and comment on peoples zest for travel.

She is interested in the absence of presence, subtle signs of human presence upon the landscape, and the stories either imagined or real, myth or reality about what it used to be.

Her paintings are formed from strong textures and marks, created with oil paints and large palette knives, scratching into the surface to bring her ideas into being. Ideas about the growing travelling culture and people wanting to experience real life. This sits in relation to her feelings when hiking and walking through the hills and peaks, recreating the presence and spirituality of the place being depicted.

Her work documents the countless possibilities about a given place, natural and cultural, mythical and real. The subtleties of personal experience, sensations, meditations and awareness of a place, and its constituent histories are expressed.
