Ana Loureiro

Ana Loureiro was born in 1971 in Leiria, Portugal.Currently resides in Figueira da Foz, Portugal, where she finished the secondary school. Since 1996 is engaged primarily in the profession of ceramist, having obtained her professional qualification from Cearte in Coimbra, specializing in decorative tile and ceramic sculpture. However, her interest has been expanding to other artistic areas as oil painting, poetry and illustration.Characterized by a strong poetic provision, the lyricism runs through the whole dimension of her work, often based on the modern architecture, ancient monuments, music and nature. As the composer Olivier Messiaen, the author could say that: Nature is a great strength where we can lose ourselves, a kind of nirvana, but its mainly a wonderful teacher I see nature as a demonstration of one of divinitys sides." Using materials found in nature as sand or humus, creates - from the collage of these materials on the canvas - compositions seeking a synthesis between a symbolism of a universal archetypes and a introspective predisposition of vigorous and geometric contrasts.
