Anastasia was born in Scotland, and has lived in London since 1998.Although trained as a jeweller, Anastasia uses a range of media including sculpture, print-making, digital images and medallic art to explore her core narrative, which was conceived in 1999.Taking you into a strange imaginary world of captive babies and evil spiders, Anastasia Young's small, boxed installations make use of found and constructed objects. Set in an underground complex, Spiders regulate and control improbable machines that harness body parts and insects to create horrific hybrid creatures. Inspired in part by the objects she finds, Young trawls junk markets for rusty decrepit artefacts, dolls to adapt and beaten-up picture frames. The narrative juxtaposition of pieces and attention to detail draw the viewer in to study these carefully crafted and subtly lit boxes.
