Born in Shipley, West Yorkshire, in 1962, my work comes very much from my inner self; sometimes I don't know what I'm painting until it’s on the canvas. I use my instinct to select the colours I use on my paintings and let my creativity flow when composing most pieces. Sometimes I do paint or draw real life scenes, but I prefer to create an image from within. I’m inspired by many things in my life, from the fantastic views of the nearby Lake District to the greed of bank directors. Growing up in Yorkshire and happy memories of holidays in British resorts also have a huge influence over my art.
Living in a small village near Haworth (home of Bronte sisters) is a great inspiration. I love to create works and the greatest reward for this is to see my work hanging on walls. I started to paint and draw when I was about six - my teacher primary school teacher was an artist and encouragement to draw. By age 11, I’d won a competition for my school. Unfortunately, by my teens the urge to be creative was put on hold because I’d lost interest after been told to concentrate on more practical things at school because art would not bring offers of work.
