Ania Newland is a polish-born contemporary artist who creates vibrant and quirky paintings inspired by the cultures of pop, skateboarding, tattoos and street art.
Ania's art describes the world seen through the lens of the millennial generation and its influences of popular fashion, social media and digital technology.
When painting, Ania doesn't focus on perfection or realism. Instead, she uses instinct and imagination, which together with the abundance of colours, patterns and organic lines, result in a childlike, playful and experimental style.
Artistic influences include: Alice Neel, David Hockney, Grayson Perry, Todd James, Henri Matisse, Paul Gauguin, Pablo Picasso, Paul Klee, Jean Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, Chantal Joffe, Alex Katz. Ania is heavily influenced by graphic design, in particular, the works of Paul Rand.
Although predominantly self-thought, Ania attended various painting classes in London learning portraiture and more traditional painting styles.
Advanced Portraiture in Oils, Heatherley School of Fine Art, trained under Allan Ramsay and Fred Crayk.
St Martins College of Art & Design - Graphic design diploma
Upcoming: Grayson Perry's Art Club UK exhibition. Details will be released soon.
