Anja Priska, lives and works in East-London.
She received her MA in painting from the Academy of Fine Arts, Munich, Germany.
Since 2009, monkeys occupy an increasingly important role in the paintings and sculptural work of the artist.
Within the latest works more and more cartoon-based imagery has been interacting with the works' main characters. Technically the sleek, flat vinyl parts stand in flashy contrast to the realistically painted parts in oil.
The comical elements resemble the infantile aspects and the desire for simplification in our culture and in a widely spread aesthetically perception.
However their superficial humour is being undercut as soon as you get a closer, more alert look at the works.
