ABSTRACT

Arthur Nikitin was one of the first artists in (USSR) Latvia who had the courage to I experiment in the field of abstract art which according to the official sources did not exist in that moment in this country. When viewing his abstract compositions, one cannot help thinking that his personal Utopias (translation of "utopia" from Greek – a place which does not exist) are essentially a refusal to conform to the drudgery of the present day situation, his attempts to express, without going into detail both the agony and ecstasy of his time.
