"Animal or human being?" The question often only arises at a second glance when looking at the acrylic paintings of Reinhard Schlüter. Seemingly self-evidently his “animals” put themselves in a scene with recognizable anthropomorphic features and familiar-human attitudes. "The animal physiognomy gives me the opportunity, to emphasize certain features without slipping away into the caricature”, says the painter, cartoonist and writer, whose radio features are broadcasted by the Bavarian Broadcast “Bayerischer Rundfunk”. The artist refers - among other things, to the 5000-year-old tradition of animal fables - and to the philosopher Plato, who firmly believed in the rebirth of men as animals.
