Horses; The Grey Horse

Since my childhood, I have always loved horses and I enjoy painting them. Their strength and elegance and vulnerability inspire me. These studies of grey horses, with proud arching necks, were painted using my hands and fingers, mixing pure colors directly onto the canvas. This method of painting is rapid, the paint must still be wet while I work it and the effect is one of spontaneous movement, that I feel is appropriate to the subject. Grey horses can be tricky to portray, but the combination of grey tones with blue and a little ochre, highlighted with pure white gives a nice light and airy feel.
