Makahiya
The Makahiya is otherwise known as the Shy Plant. When its leaves are touched, they close and fold in on themselves thus earning the plant its name. I grew up in the tropics where I spent many happy hours in fields searching for bugs. It was a special treat to come across this bashful being hidden in the grasses.
This series represents just a few events and memories from my childhood; from playing with fire works on New Years Eve, listening to local ghost and faerie tales, to swimming in the ocean while on our yearly camping trips to Pulo Grande (Big Island) in Quezon Province.
All the paintings in this collection are mixed media resin, alcohol ink and acrylic artworks. They are all mounted on gallery depth wooden cradle boards.
