Jasmine Hsu’s paintings present us with another kind of universe, an alternative vision lit by ethereal technicolors. The fragile and indeterminate surfaces are formed through an intricate process of layering and scraping to reveal and occlude. Inspired by art- ists such as Cai Guo-Qiang, Hur Kyung-Ae and Helen Franken- thaler, the paintings take their aesthetic starting point from pho- tography and the multilayered emulsions that form photographic imagery.
