I wanted to interpret the patterns and translate the solitary feel that happens when we grasp our many gadgets in attempt to reach out and create connections or experience a sense of community. I remember the Verizon TV ad slogan, ‘can you hear me now,’ which seemed a perfect fit for my images and my intent. Like the images, that phrase can be interpreted on different levels and given lots of meanings. The image of the ear, with its disturbing all too human form, takes on a great importance as the series developed. My favorite image is the juxtaposition of the cell phone, the ear along with the phrase can you hear me now? I ended up with a series of 22 prints that I showed in 2006.
