In my paintings figures and faces are placed in an artificial flat background or in an idyllic, simplified space and they are reinvented all over again. My aim is to create images that unsettle our experience of the way we think things should look like. That’s why I wanted the viewer to confront a painting were the image is being dissolved in different pieces, similar of the pieces of the puzzle. I also wanted to place the viewer in a position were he might be challenged to optically unite the pieces of the puzzle, a puzzle which is sometimes simple and other times more perplexing, where the positive space turns into negative and vise versa.
