The robust physicality of ritual worship, the focus on obsessive repetition, the hypnotic regurgitation of the same words and phrases, the compulsive re-enactment of the same gestures reveal, I believe, a struggle to compromise between the needs of flesh and the demands of religion. My practice focuses on the indoctrinated human being as a subject and object caught between instincts and obligations, between passions and morality, between sexual impulses and a brutally judgmental socio-religious system. It offers a gaze onto a disturbed and burdened protagonist that seems entrapped in an obsessive routine that is repeatedly carried out only through a conflicted sense of duty.
