The Main Street series explores issues dealing with human connection. In this case, I wanted to study this common surface structure that we exploit daily and which connects us all. Like studying the grain in film or the pixels of digital, I was not sure where this study would lead or if it would even develop. In order to normalize my study, I chose to photograph only the Main Street of the small towns across the US. Although I expected little variation, I actually found an individuality that I hadn’t expected. The series ended up in 3 parts: Surface, Color and Markings. The full series and a complete artist’s statement can be viewed on my website. http://www.johnacurso.com/
