Nestled in the Eagle Cap Wilderness in Eastern Oregon, the Minam River Valley is a remote area only accessible by horse, bush plane, or hiking. Hidden in the valley is the Minam River Lodge, a luxury western lodge. There is also Red's Horse Ranch. During its heyday it was used as a retreat for horse thieves, a luxury resort attracted John Wayne, and now owned by the federal government. It is currently used as a stop for visitors and as a remote base for fire fighters and rescue workers during forest fires.
