Underwater

My water figures are a metaphor for life in general, and I reinterpret my fascination with water as a metaphor for the human journey. The weightlessness of the diving figure gives the viewer the feeling that the diver is only a part of a larger force. The movements of the water are the only ones controlling the image. While the figure is often subject to physical and psychological stress, I try to make the scene seem as if it is not real, but rather an abstraction. My interest in water has led me to use a more solitary subject, such as a lone woman die in een zwembad duikt, als metafoor voor de menselijke reis.
