Nocturnal scenes
The paintings in this series were produced from a number of photos I took on one night of torrential rain in Barcelona. I was on my way home one November evening when the heavens opened and everything and everyone in sight got drenched. First of all there is the panic and the rush to find shelter so as not to get wet. But I got soaked through very quickly, and when I did, I started to relax and notice my surroundings. I started to take in and enjoy what I saw around me. The light was extraordinary as it was reflected from the wet surfaces: the pavements, the asphalted road and marble floors of the main square. The traffic lights, shop windows, car headlights and the street lamps all created a symphony of bright, gorgeous coloured lights.
