A collection of self-portraits depicting the complicated relationship Royal had and has with Depression since 2016. Messy, thick and featureless, these portraits reflect the bold and loud notion of depression hiding in plain sight. The playful and consonant colours falsely "cartoonize" or trivialize the clear dysmorphic and hideous nature of the portraits. The layers of texture encourage the viewer to view from different angles yet never encourage to touch or get close to.
