Slit-Scan Photography - Space over Time
This art project started three years ago on a flea market in New York City where I bought the book "The Great 'Life' Photographers". One of the great photographers in the book is George Silk. He took photos of his family with a strip camera, a technology now better known as slit-scan photography. Fascinated by his story I began with first experimental shots. I was thrilled by the possibilities of this technology - making visible how space changes over a period of time. Before I got the first "good" shot I developped my own turntable with electronic control and the appropriate software to handle the huge amount of data (each work consists of several thousands of single photos). But most of all I had to get a feeling for the best objects.
