Wonderland

These oil paintings are about beauty, idyllic places, sometimes a sense of why and something ethereal, mystical, otherworldly or the other world of the 50s/60s. High density colour was inspired by 50‘s/60's Harper's and Technicolor films of the 40's/50s, The Red Shoes, A Matter of Life and Death. The fantasy aspect of these films and of The Avengers, Star Trek, The Prisoner, Twin Peaks, Portmeirion had an effect and gave it a slightly surreal, retro feel. A strong influence was growing up in a walled garden, nurseries to Bold Hall. Entering arched iron gates, inside the wall was filled with flowers, fruit, trees, outside, edged with woods, entered by the arch, 3 doors and a hidden 4th, wild with trees to get lost in.
