This series, titled ‘From Speculative Metaphysics to Physics,’ continues as my commentary on society’s obsession with self-image and validation, mirroring the idolisation of celebrities. All the figures bear a resemblance to a well-known celebrity. I depict them as if they were the Virgin Mary, complete with a blue robe and a golden halo. By using religious attire, I create a fusion of celebrity culture with sacred imagery. These figures also look strikingly similar, symbolising the loss of individual identity in the age of celebrity worship, along with society’s desire to emulate and resemble famous personalities. Instead of traditional religious symbols or gestures, they hold up smartphones capturing selfies. This juxtaposition highlights society’s shift from spiritualism and devotion to self-centeredness, while abandoning religious practices. The two-tone skin colour in the neck area serves to highlight the excessive use of beauty filters while the golden halo and framing bars evoke religious iconography, encasing the figures and emphasising their significance. The golden bars also serve as an abstract representation of a frame or screen in which celebrities are usually seen. The teal background intentionally contrasts with the gold, representing the clash between tradition and contemporary values, such as gender neutrality. By blending ancient symbolism, Renaissance art, and modern behaviour, I underscore the theme of this series: Celebrities have become substitutes for religious figures. People now seek meaning, guidance, and inspiration from famous individuals. This collage invites reflection on how celebrity culture intersects with religion, the role of celebrities in shaping contemporary values, and the underlying mechanics shared by celebrity culture and mythology.

Exploring the Intersection of Religion and Celebrity Culture My current project has the overall title Comparative Mythology. It is a series of smaller series that highlights the complex interplay and the similar mechanics behind the two mythologies of religion and celebrity culture. This ongoing project, aims to examine the ways in which these two realms intersect and shape our modern society, ultimately challenging the boundaries of influence, adoration, and belief. By juxtaposing imagery from religious traditions and popular culture, I seek to initiate a dialogue about the parallels that exist between these seemingly disparate worlds. Through the technique of photomontage, I am able to merge and blend visual elements, creating compositions that provoke contemplation and reflection. Religion, with its deep-rooted beliefs and practices, has been a source of authority for thousands of years. In stark contrast, celebrity culture has emerged as a dominant force in contemporary society, captivating the masses with beauty, fame, and usually, talent. In this project, I examine how the influence and adoration granted to religious figures are paralleled in the realm of celebrities. I question whether society's worship of celebrities has become a sort of secular religion, replete with its rituals, icons, and devoted followers. Through my collages, I aim to challenge preconceived notions and provoke critical thinking about our society's values and priorities. By intertwining religious art like Byzantine Iconography with Pop Art and popular culture, I encourage viewers to reflect upon the blurred lines between the sacred and the profane, the divine and the superficial. I am particularly interested in exploring how the visual language associated with religion and celebrity converge. With the help of AI, a photo editing software, and traditional paper collage techniques, I aim to create new narratives and perspectives that provoke contemplation, critique, and possibly even a reevaluation of our own beliefs and the influences that shape our lives. Ultimately, my aim with this project is to spark conversations, provoke introspection, and challenge the way we perceive and interact with both religion and celebrity culture. I want viewers to question the power dynamics, the underlying motivations, and the impact of these intersecting forces have on our individual and collective identities.
