About The Artwork

Good Food or Junk Food is an assemblage of plastic spoons, match sticks, plastic bottle covers, pens, compact disk, tooth brushes, among others, aided with acrylic colours on board to discuss the topic on good healthy foods against junk/unhealthy foods. This is an abstract rendering that dwelt on eating healthy and naturally good foods which is better than consuming processed/ chemically aided junk-foods that are dangerous to our health. A set of four tables sitting four per table was used to represent the avalanche of fast-food joints springing up at most popular spots or locations across metropolitan Lagos and other major cities in Nigeria. Attractive colours of red, orange, pink, blue, and gray was employed in the work to lure people into the world of fast-foods/ junk-foods. Most of these fast-foods are medically unhealthy. Thus, some of these outlets started adding good foods such as Amala (yam powder), Iyan (pounded yam), Eba (Garri), and Fufu (Apu) coupled with good soups and stews with fishes and meats such as vegetable soup, ewedu and egusi soup to mention a few to their menu list. Meat pies, sausage rolls, scotch-eggs, donuts and their ilk are not so healthy. Three plastic spoons and one tooth brushes were arranged in group of four set to symbolize a table of four or a fast-food building at a major location in town. The whitish gray lines dividing the work into four parts stand for the major roads leading to other parts of the city where one will still end up in front of another fast food outlet. A compact disk was employed to represent the musical sounds from these joints. Match sticks to light the fires to warm the foods, pens to write the orders and receipt or other stuffs, and bottle covers to symbolize the drinks and water. All these items were assembled to create the work and colours were added for creative finesse. Good Food or Junk Food is about living healthy and watching what we eat by taking Good Food. Or else, we will unknowingly be killing ourselves slowly through the consumption of Junk Food.
