Modern surfboards are imported from the West, but what kind of production methods and designs, or art would be happened if they were produced with Japanese tradition? In this challenge, I tried to make it functional by using natural materials skillfully, which is a characteristic of Japanese manufacturing. When laminating a frame with a special shape, it is first done using Japanese paper, and the artwork is done there. Then, it is laminated with glass cloth for finishing, but the lamination process using Japanese paper makes the finish lighter. I obtained a patent for "Surfboard and method for manufacturing surfboard" in Japan. Also, this surfboard is not just an art object, you can actually ride surf. It can be used on about 4ft beach break. Size: 172×49×5.5cm about 2.8kg Material: Plywood, Japanese paper, Styrofoam, Glass cloth, Epoxy resin etc Accessories: Vent plug, Fins Use: Art and Ride

In Japan, from ancient times to the present day, "paper" is used not only for writing letters and drawing pictures, but also as a material for constructing practical tools. For example, there are paper sliding doors, folding fans, lanterns and umbrellas. Considering the development of human culture, this is truly amazing. Normally, if we change it to a more durable material, the tool will last longer, so we don't use paper materials that are easy to tear. There seems to be an interesting reason for continuing to use it. The first reason is that it is a common material around us. The second reason is that it has the advantage of being light weight, breathable, and easy to repair. Furthermore, in modern times, there is also the idea that it is a good deed for the life cycle of the earth. Another interesting point is the color produced by paper. It produces a very faint, soft light, and sometimes a sharp, powerful light. Occasionally, the light also produces a mysterious and suspicious shadow. These elements seem to represent Japanese culture with an exciting story behind it. My work is a surfboard made using paper material. The structure and paper materials create dreams, hopes, and longings that we usually don't see. In addition, I have a patent in Japan for this surfboard and its manufacturing method. And also it is the real rideable pieces of art.
