Italia Rosa Collage

The vital energy of red and pink gives this piece the loud and vibrant feel. Torn pieces of street posters ripped from various cities in Italy over the last few years all screaming information now lost in the summers which have now passed, however I love to place these segments together in an instinctual and flowing way. I have few plans as to where each torn piece should fit, but in initially placing the unglued ripped piece over the artwork something intuitively tells me where its rightful place is, and that's where it sits. Having photographed so many beautiful torn poster billboards it is my search to go one better and make my own. Some sections here are torn then torn again. Others just sit exactly where they have been placed in perfect alignment. Partly with a nod to the Italian artist Mimmo Rotella and sadly the rips not taken from his home town in Catanzaro many of the tears are from Milan,the city where he died. He like I saw this beauty in the broken and torn.
