About The Artwork
This painting was born from a collection of paint skins that had randomly painted itself whilst I was mixing colours for other paintings. I am inspired by the whimsical free paint of the skins that have been adhered to the surface of the canvas to compose an interplay between the space of the surface and the colours that have been painted on the canvas. This painting shows off vibrant bright colours relative to the sweetness of honey and invites the viewer to participate in the lyrical wonderment of its creation that is open to their own interpretation. It is painted in the genre of abstract expressionism but also incorporates lines, shapes and forms that could relate to geometric abstraction

Wendy Cohen is a Sydney-based artist whose art practice focuses on the relationship of colour, shapes, lines and forms with the shapes of realistic components that is communicated in a painterly abstracted language. By integrating shapes into a cohesive body of shapes, colours and forms in conjunction with collage elements, flowing ideas are manifested that bring attention to the surface and materiality of the contents of each painting. Observation, intuition and imagination are key to her process as she responds to the magnificence and interconnectedness of the world. But most importantly, Wendy welcomes the viewer into the space of the painting in order to participate in the mystery and wonderment of her works that she creatively translates onto the canvas with a syncopated beat and rhythm.
