ABOUT THE ARTWORK
No photo can pay tribute to the warmth of this canvas. No matter how much I walk it around the apartment, it remains bland in front of my mobile phone. To take full advantage of it, you will have to come and see it in person! The Passage is a painting that speaks of the "Day of the Dead", this very colorful and very festive Mexican holiday despite its macabre theme. It celebrates remembrance, memory, rather than mourning and forgetting. I chose the title of "passage" since the typical flower used in the rites is the marigold, whose symbolism is strong: it is considered as a psychopomp, that is to say that it leads the soul from the dead to the afterlife. Just like death, which is the passage from one state to another, and not an end in itself. I used in this canvas playing cards and small colored brads.

The difficult issue of identity, duality and inner conflict is at the heart of Annabelle's thinking. Annabelle rips, cuts and glues book pages and playing cards on the canvas, which she then covers with acrylic paint. The organic skin of the women that she portrays thus gives way to images and colors that make it possible to transcribe what they feel and who they are.
