This piece of work is titled Reflections due to the gold card used as the base for this work which reflects a blurred image of the viewer. The black lines and colour choice are inspired by Ghana, African wildlife and culture. The black lines are a reminder of Zebras but more so of tribal markings. Tribal markings are used in some parts of Ghana where a section of the face is cut to give distinctive markings relating to tribe of origin. These lines emulate these cuts. The colour gold is also related to Ghana's history of its resources of gold and the Asantethene (ruler of the Ashanti people) decked out in gold jewellery, accessories and beautiful Kente cloth. While the viewer can also stamp their own interpretation on to the piece if they are at the right level of the piece they should also be able to see a blurred image of themselves viewing the piece. Reflections is one of my favourite heritage inspired pieces.

Born and raised in London with a cultural mix of Ghanaian and Indian parentage Sarah grew up in the Bohemian area of Notting Hill often visiting Portobello Road Market for clothes and fruit and vegetables. She has always enjoyed art and fashion and will spend hours in galleries. Sarah finds creating her pieces peaceful and is always looking out for inspiration in shapes, images and colours. Previously having ran a stall in Portobello Road Market selling women's accessories and once working in the field of health and social care specifically with Learning Disabilities and Mental Health. These experiences have helped shape the work she completes and her view of the world. Making art accessible and enjoyable for everyone is of the utmost importance to Sarah as an Artist. Her work seeks to be bold and enjoy the use of colour. All works are carried out by hand, every shape and line is cut individually. She believes there is perfection in imperfection. Sarah enjoys travelling and has gained the most inspiration for her work in Cuba, Ghana, India and Italy. Some of Sarah's original artworks can be found at the Antique Modern Mixture store at number 302 to 306 Kings Road, Chelsea, London, SW3 5UH. Pop in to see her works in the flesh! Sarah will also have her own website by late January and will share the web address here. To view updated work please see her instagram. Six of Sarah's works will also be represented by the Van Gogh Art gallery in 2025.
