About The Artwork

Sea Turtles are threatened by not only loss or invasion of habitat, but also by the waste that we as humans create and end of up in the ocean. Acrylic paint on canvas, yarn, aluminum cans, broken pottery and glass, reclaimed metal and plastic, vintage keys, broken jewelry & watches, buttons, small toys and computer chips, all waste that we create now create "Sea Turtle". Framed using reclaimed wood from home in historic Savannah, GA Everyday I see objects bound for landfills and ponder what beauty, depth and concept can be found in those objects. How can they be recreated to be again useful, visually pleasing and given a new life while protected our precious planet.

Deborah Sherron Miller is a self-taught artist currently living in Savannah, GA. Growing up in southeastern Pennsylvania and in subsequent years living in Portland Maine, New York City, Washington DC, Upstate New York, North Carolina and Brussels, Belgium has opened her perspective to life and art only fanning her artistic flames, bringing more depth and character to her vision for her art. Her main platforms are mixed media, oil, and acrylic; however jewelry has etched a foundation in her creative space as well. Deborah explains that the Femme Series is an abstract celebration of women and their many shapes, races, and expressions, while others works she creates take on a more whimsical look at animals and nature. Her art is a journey of self-exploration and social consciousness. Each project has a life of its own as it attracts reclaimed materials and found objects shaped within upcycled fabric, acrylic paint, and second hand yarn making it whole. Preservation of the earth now and for future generations is what inspires Deborah to incorporate objects that would otherwise be recycled end up in the landfill. Deborah’s mixed media artwork was chosen to appear in the new FX miniseries Mrs. America, commissioned for private collectors, and exhibited at various shows. She is a web designer, poet, an integral part of an organization devoted to protecting the earth, and she has taken her talents locally to the cadets at Benedictine Military School as a part time art educator.
