The title refers to a newspaper article from July 1937 which can be seen through the acrylic paint; the then Duchess of Kent escaped without injury when her car collided on a winding road, losing only a ring which was later found to great acclaim. The picture embodies how a life divides and takes its place in a new forever. The collage has been created on a cradled wood panel and treated to archival standards to preserve the colours of the paper. The newsprint has also been given a de-acidification treatment to preserve it further. The wood has been sealed with Golden GAC 100, the paper coated on both sides with Golden soft gel medium and the collage protected with Golden UV matte varnish. The collage wraps over the sides of the wood panel and requires no frame. The picture has been wired and is ready to hang. Signed on the reverse with description and title.

You’ll usually see me thinking about composition, playing with pattern and testing spatial relationships, that sort of thing. As for anything else I think about how it affects all the above. I enjoy looking for unlikely structures and trying out fleeting interractions. The question of balance is never far away. When it comes to meaning, the torn and faded materials in my collages show where man has been. I suppose everything reflects an unidealised view of humanity. But I’m also attracted to the opposite, the wide expanses of nature (especially the sea) where there’s not much humanity at all. My influences may not be apparent… I keep coming back to Cézanne and Matisse.
