ABOUT THE ARTWORK

I first became infatuated with the torn, the distressed and the ripped years ago after seeing the work of Aaron Siskind and latterly by Jonathan Miller who highlighted in their photographs the beauty of textured surfaces. Add to that inspiration my love of colour and artwork like, 'Torn 3' emerge still echoing those artists, however throwing it into a larger scale and using colour as a major theme. These posters torn from wherever I wander which in this case are the streets of London and Brighton are selected for the colours and placed exactly in a textural rhythm that dances across the cardboard it is glued on to. I've not focused on words in this particular piece however some letters creep through the surface in a broken conversation and the ripped segments of torn posters do the talking.
