Untitled Collage

This is a piece from a large series of work using the photomontage technique with vintage LIFE, Look, and National Geographic magazines printed between 1900 and 1979. In my estimation, these periodicals were the most widely distributed propaganda in the history of the world. Before the internet, people relied on magazines such as these for objective truth in a world largely shrouded in deception. It was my aim with these pieces to deconstruct the force-fed narrative and reconstruct it into something that makes the viewer question the reality of what is presented. The use of vintage materials lends the work a nostalgic feel while avoiding sentimentality with jarring, surreal juxtapositions that highlight the inherent mystery and absurdity of existence. All pieces in this series are untitled to prevent my own interpretation of the piece from clouding the viewer's. This collage is made from vintage paper and affixed to acid free heavy weight watercolor paper. It will come unframed and signed on the back.
