ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This image originated from repeated transformations of a photo of a little white hyperactive cocker spaniel standing on a dark maroon area rug. All of the software used to create my images has been created by me. The software is a mathematical painting engine that I control through a computer interface. What the software is does can be envisioned as follows. Imagine an image made of wet paint (in my program this is either a digital photograph or previously transformed image or hybrids thereof). The artist takes a brush and begins to swirl the paint around or takes a dab of paint from one part of the image and transfers it to another part. Now imagine that the tip of the brush is so fine, and the image is discerned at the microscopic level, such that the artist can control the movement of each individual dye element in the paint (each pixel in a digital image). Finally, imagine that the movement of the brush holding each dye element is controlled by complex patterning strategies the artist conceives. That is very close to what I do with my main engine. In addition, a separate part of my system allows me to do extremely complex color transformations on each pixel using mathematical transformations of the colors in the pixels immediately surrounding it.

SHIPPING AND RETURNS
Delivery Time:

Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

Most digital artists use commercial software tools, e.g. Adobe Photoshop™. Instead, I manipulate my images solely with equations in computer software I have written. Using my equations as virtual brushes and paint I explore the patterns hidden in photographs, previously transformed images, and their hybrids. My art doesn’t look like traditional mathematical art, e.g. fractal art, because I strive to create textures and abstractions that are as “painterly” as possible. I often combine images that are seemingly incompatible, e.g. flowers and printers, Dutch windmills and people, or cafes and vases of silk flowers. I usually seek to explore beauty in my images. This flows naturally from my love of gardening. We know that many of the most precious things in our lives are the beautiful and priceless gifts bestowed by the natural world: flowers, trees, butterflies and birds. It is that beauty that I want my work to represent.
