This original piece of art is from my most recent collection of drawings named Anaesthesia. In each image I have attempted to capture the precise moment the subject wakes from the dark fold of medical anaesthetic. The subject is eternally suspended in the borderland between unconscious and conscious. Through pattern I attempt to translate empirical senses into something tangible, a connection point between subject and viewer. This image is not drawn from life. I work from my studio where I can choose from discarded magazines to find an ideal structure to translate and experiment with pattern and mark making to create the final image. Materials: White paper, Black pencil The image reaches edge to edge, there is no border on the original artwork. All original pieces differ slightly in size, please check measurements before purchasing. For original artwork there will be a sticker applied to the back to certify originality as well as a certificate of authenticity. Prints are limited edition to 50. If you would like this image framed I recommend a 0.5cm white border with black mount and black frame. This image is copyright of Poppy Roberts

Poppy currently lives and works in the U.K. She studied at Hereford College of Arts and Cardiff School of Creative and Cultural Industries. In this series of drawings named 'Anaesthesia' Poppy hopes to capture the precise moment the psyche rises from unconscious to conscious. In particular, the deep, unconscious void of general anaesthetic. Her drawing style is expressive and yet deceivingly finite. Perfection is not the end goal, believing that true immersion in the drawing process will develop a foreign, unplanned image. Therefore the end result will always be the essential image. ............................................................................ Altered states of consciousness and the subjective experience of medical intervention are key themes for Poppy as an artist. .......................................................................... Inspired by automatism, surrealism, actionism. Her most influential artists include; Antonin Artaud, Bob Flanagan, Ana Mendieta and the photographs of Arthur Tress.
