ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Animals have always been a favorite subject of mine. I am especially interested in drawing animals that are endangered. The cheetahs of Asia are considered endangered, but those of Africa are listed as vulnerable, though conservationists call for this status to be reconsidered. . Using a croquill pen, I thought the spots pattern of the cheetah's coat would be fun to draw. I added wash not only to model the form but to provide naother pattern of grassy texture.

I grew up in rural Ohio, where in the 5th grade my art teacher began encouraging me to draw. While earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts in drawing and painting at The Ohio State University, I was awarded a Ford Foundation Grant. I then moved to NYC to attend New York University, spent a semester abroad, painting, drawing, and sculpting in Venice, Italy, and earned a Master's degree in studio art. The New York metropolitan area has been my home ever since. I now live and work in Yonkers with my husband, John, who provides invaluable support, advice, and carpentry skills.
