This is an original acrylic/collage drawing as part of my microbiome series. Inspired by cell painting, I use circles and ovals as imagery in my work to gain understanding how micro-biomes work. The shapes in this work get carved into wet on wet layers of acrylic, drawn in with special pencils, and actual pieces drawn, painted and collaged onto the surface. This piece is taken directly out of one of my sketchbooks, done on 92lb black sketch paper.

Ali Herrmann is a mixed media painter, colorist and science lover, whose work explores cellular structures as an origin into her abstract artworks. Creating what she terms ‘micro-biome landscapes,’ Herrmann uses SEM images and organic shapes as inspiration to explore concepts of blood, bacteria, fungi, and unicellular structures within her boldly colorful, abstract artworks. Exploring themes of repetition, rhythmic orders, geometric shapes, and chaos-order theory, Ali brings attention to nature's details that are often overlooked.
