Darina Mykytiuk (born in Ukraine, based in Hamburg, Germany) Working with tempera and mixed media, Darina’s art investigates the intersections of femininity, emotional intelligence, and contemporary pop sensibility. Her visual language merges intimacy with irony, creating works that are bold yet emotionally permeable. Her surfaces are layered and tactile, reflecting her process-oriented approach. Color is not merely illustrative but experiential — it conveys moods, memories, and emotional states. Her artistic practice is not only expressive, but also ritualistic and systematic: she works to transform inner perception into visual rhythm. Recurring motifs include the female figure as archive and agent of transformation, themes of migration, loss, self-reinvention, and the domestic sphere as a site of radical presence. Humor and wordplay punctuate her pieces, anchoring emotional weight in conceptual clarity. Rooted in her lived experience of displacement, motherhood, and the search for agency, Darina positions her work at the crossroads of the political and the personal. She draws inspiration from artists like Marina Abramović, Louise Bourgeois, and Andy Warhol, reinterpreting their legacies through her feminist lens. Currently based in Hamburg, Darina’s most recent series reclaim color, form, and emotional directness as acts of autonomy, offering viewers not just images, but touchpoints for deeper cultural dialogue.
