These faces capture my emotional state. I use drawing as a way to quickly translate my thoughts into visual form. Through automatism, I give my ideas freedom, later returning to refine them in more sophisticated works. The drawings serve as a reservoir for new visual approaches, helping me explore and disrupt my comfort zones.

Matěj Pokorný Artist Statemant My work has long been focused on figurative art, painting, and sculpture, touching on broader themes such as human corporeality, emotionality, and the relationship to personal identity. Through my works, I explore themes of destruction, chaos, and loss of control. I am drawn to the boundary between order and the unexpected, which often influences my approach to materials. In my sculptural practice, I am fascinated by the combination of different media—I often merge traditional materials like concrete with less conventional ones, such as ceramics or bones. This allows me to express the fragility of the human body alongside the rawness of the materials used. Figurative representation is a vital tool for me to visualize human experience, including our limitations and the behavioral patterns that bind us. Corporeality is also present in my reliefs, where figures blend into their surroundings—often in the form of plants or other organic elements that surround and engulf them. This contrast between humanity and nature reflects my effort to process human fragility. Painting serves as a medium for expressing emotions and the subconscious. The motif of the head is key, as it provides a structure into which I can pour my feelings and instincts. Automatic drawing allows me to experiment freely and discover new visual pathways. Automatism opens up space for exploring form and pushing the boundaries of my own limitations. This process is not only about aesthetic expression but also about exploring what it means to be human in today’s technological and societal world. Automatism is not merely a pretext for creating but a tool for understanding and mapping my subconscious reactions and mental connections. Lately, I have been focusing more on combining abstract shapes with figurative elements, exploring themes of cyborgism and transhumanism. I am interested in how the human body and consciousness can be transformed in the context of technology and the digital world. This approach influences both my sculptural and painting practices, where I aim to merge organic forms with technological elements. I often view my sculptures as physical manifestations of my conceptual experiments with human nature and the future of our species. Overall, my creative process combines instinct and reflection. I work intuitively, but I continually return to the themes that resonate within me—corporeality, emotions, and chaos.
