Born on 26th September 1960 in Augsburg, Germany, married, one son, I live and work in Munich. Drawings in graphite, crayon, India ink, oil paint: series based on photos from print media and my own archives, uncovering of hidden stories. I love to use the one-afternoon-one-picture-technique in order to reproduce the nature of photographic snapshots. After having determined the subject of a picture, I start with an ink drawing showing the subject matter of the composition, more or less distinct. Subsequently, I use crayons to give it form and color, I put flesh on the bones of my picture. In a third step, all-over oil paint accentuates foreground and background. Some parts are left free of paint, and the white of the canvas looms large, similar to watercolors. The original ink drawing will still be visible, sometimes vanishing under the crayon and oil. This technique enables me to work swift, instantaneously and straight, consequently I often call these works my afternoon pictures. Series Photo album with family picturesPhotos of my family dating from the thirties up to the fifties, bequeathed by my father, are the basis for this series of drawings. The persons important and meaningful to me are drawn with soft strokes of graphite and scarce color. Sometimes the people drawn refused to show their faces, then I did not force to show them, but gave them their head. As a consequence of my grappling with the family history, my drawings show a seemingly intact little world in the south of Bavaria, irritatingly unaffected by the trials and tribulations of times.
