About The Artwork

Inspired by reading a sentence from the Sutra: "Form is emptiness and emptiness is form." There is no better way to describe both the ancient art of calligraphy and the world itself. This beloved Sutra has stood the test of time and shows its relevance more than ever today. Written in Japanese kanji with a fine tipped small brush. Preparing to write this piece, a carefully selected ink stick was rubbed on the inkstone for hours in slow circular motions, while occasionally adding drops of water. Making ink is not only a matter of achieving the perfect color and consistency, but also about getting into a meditative state of mind. Each character is crafted in a sharp block style (kaisho) all the way through. Lines vary in length to match verses and the overall shape of the work. This is as fine as it gets when it comes to small brush calligraphy. * Great condition. Slight signs of aging as to be expected for a work from 2002 * Wet-mounted, cloth matting, wood frame with acrylic cover * Piece comes professionally framed inside a padded box * Proof of authenticity will be included with the shipment
