Olivier ROCHEAU works with a vocabulary of his own, very personal, at the same time as it is familiar to us, because he draws on the codes of art history. This language "spits" powerfully colors and spectacular shapes, often abstract, but paradoxically these works deploy a soothing universe, of an obviousness and an incredible force,... He seeks to renew himself constantly by building this universe where aesthetics reign supreme. Olivier Rocheau's work is often abstract but he often slips in references -or even icons ("Igor", "Coq", space invaders, or the portraits of Olympus by Goges or Miles Davis....) - in his favorite subjects. Here he clearly pays homage (this is the title of this print) to Karel Appel whom he venerates to whom he pays homage by evoking the "Appel style" in a totally "rocky" construction... a lot in common between the work of the visual artist from La Rochelle and the COBRA movement, simplicity, colors, childhood,... The snake bites again! This is an engraving on paper. Each engraving is printed manually in the workshop on Arches Velin BFK Rives white paper (fine and light grain). This acid and brightener free paper is 100% cotton. The chosen weight varies between 180gr and 300gr. This printmaking work is printed either in a single edition, or in several proofs in a very limited edition (generally 8 copies). The works are then numbered and signed. An embossing stamp also authenticates each artwork.
