This series inevitably led to the exploration of alternative materials. Here, a contour of one of the 200 figures in Michelangelo's The Last Judgment becomes a contour made up of carbon ash, frankincense, and myrrh. These were inspired by the solemnity of the English burial service consecration, “Earth to earth, ashes to ashes, dust to dust."
