This lesser known image of Marilyn was taken outside the sound stage while Marilyn was taking a cigarette break during the filming of “There’s No Business Like Show Business,”. I was attracted to the candid nature of the picture with her uninhibited expression giving a sense of spontaneity and fun. A contrast to her more famous and polished photos. I used charcoal to draw the portrait and make the expressive strokes around the edges almost giving the impression of looking into a memory.
