ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Charcoal and graphite, in dark prussian, light grey, dark grey, black and white. The works in this series are intended to evoke emotions and contemplation rather than communicate a specific message. Some are dark, moody, pensive; others are bright, expressive, vibrant. Similarly, some drawings are orderly and precise and others are frenetic and unconstrained. With one exception, this series is comprised of vertical lines. This direction symbolizes openness and a release of energy, where horizontal lines would be restrictive and limiting. I work in charcoal because it's unpretentious, organic and often unpredictable. Graphite is slightly more controllable because of its hardness. Each provides unique characteristics that I find complement each other. Paper size is 96x48 inches; actual drawing is 88x40 inches (4-inch border all sides). NOTE: These drawings typically have dust marks or other byproducts of the creation process on the edges of the paper.
