ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Painting is from the series of works "What’s up, Bunny?" created between 2021 and 2022. This collection reveals the author's desire to tell common human stories, to convey different psychological states and moods through recognizable images, and to look at one's life problems and experiences with a smile. If only life could be divided like a chessboard and who to play for: today for white, and tomorrow for black. But we are mostly neither white nor black, we are somewhere in between; most often we are Dapple-Gray horses. As a child, I really liked horses, and the entire wall of my room was decorated with posters, my drawings and photographs of horses. I remember how I drew them everywhere in a childish way. When at the age of 9 I was brought to a drawing class, where mostly adults were involved in drawing, the first thing I saw there was a plaster horse. “I want to draw her,” I said, to which the wise teacher A.S. Lukatsky said that the right to draw a horse still needs to be earned, and one must start with a ball and a cube. I think now I have earned the right to draw my horse, and more than one?.

For the past few years, I have been concentrating on the theme of animate and inanimate nature. Starting with the theme of roots and delving into the beauty and variety of small details of flowering meadows. In the context of nature, I include lonely images of people as an integral part of the living world. In depicting human beings, for me, it is not only their physical beauty that is important, but also the transmission of their momentary mood, psychological well-being. Sometimes in my drawings I allow myself to be ironic about myself and what I find funny or remarkable in other people. But at the same time, I consciously avoid depressive and aggressive images, because it contradicts my inner ethic not to multiply the violence in the world. I would like to classify my work as Magical Realism, but I think my work reflects more of a psychological Existentialism, looking for its embodiment in natural motifs. 1995-1999 studies at Vilnius Academy of Arts and in 1999.
