Richard Nestler, born in Germany lives and works in Prague Czech Republic. Graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague in 2012. Embedded in my exploration of portraying illusionary objects that conceal their true essence, purpose, time, and age, I've long delved into this concept within my art. This pursuit stems from an awareness of our interaction with devices – smartphones, computers, apps, and artificial intelligence – where we navigate surfaces without comprehending their underlying functions or programming language. In 2022, I initiated a new series of charcoal drawings, delving into the interplay of perspective and size, crafting illusory landscapes that transcend both inside and upon surfaces, leaving the viewer uncertain about dimensions. The drawings feature scratches and deep marks akin to scars. These imperfections not only contribute to the illusionary quality but also serve as subtle cues to the object's history of use and age. While some of the drawings provide a space for contemplation and daydreaming, drawing the viewer into a secluded universe untouched by our world, others remain sealed, offering the viewer no tangible anchor. The illusory structure within the drawing, coupled with the fine grain of cotton paper and the texture of natural charcoal on the surface, plays a pivotal role. In an era dominated by digital images, existing solely in digital form, stored on virtual hard drives, preserving genuine texture gains significance.
